GREATEST GOALIES ELIGIBLE FOR THE CCAA HALL OF FAME

Of the seven goalies who are currently eligible for the CCAA Hall of Fame, four received the highest honour of any goaltender participating at nationals at every event that they played in. Each was named the most valuable player at nationals. When the most valuable player was a defenseman or a forward, three were named the tournament all star goaltender.

From the fall of 1995 through the spring of 1998, Chad Ford guarded the Cambrian College crease backstopping the Golden Shield to conference championships in 1996 and 1997 and a national title in 1997.  The future Allan Cup participant was selected OCAA First Team All Conference in 1997 and OCAA Second Team All Conference in 1996 and 1998. In a trio of appearances at nationals, his awards included CCAA All Canadian and CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player in 1997.  He also received CCAA Tournament All Star honours in 1996 and 1998.

From the fall of 1988 through the spring of 1991, Rob McKinley minded the Ooks net backstopping NAIT to back to back conference championships in 1990 and 1991 in addition to back to back national titles in 1989 and 1990. (No national championship took place in 1991.) He was selected ACAC First Team All Conference and CCAA All Canadian in 1990. The former Memorial Cup participant was recognized as a CCAA Tournament All Star in 1989 and the CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player selection in 1990.

From the fall of 1986 through the spring of 1988, Alain Morrisette donned the jersey of Collège St-Laurent leading the Patriotes to a a national title in 1987 and a conference championship in 1988. At nationals, he was selected CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player in 1987. He was also honoured as CCAA All Canadian in 1988.

From the fall of 1982 through the spring of 1985, Cleo Rowein tended the NAIT goal backstopping the Ooks to conference championships in 1984 and 1985 and a national title in 1985.  He was selected ACAC First Team All Conference and CCAA All Canadian every season he donned a NAIT jersey. At nationals, he earned CCAA Tournament All Star honours in 1984 and a CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player selection in 1985.

While each was honoured as CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player on a national championship winning team, one stands alone among the seven goaltenders, eight defensemen and fourteen forwards currently eligible for the CCAA Hall of Fame.

Cleo Rowein is the lone hockey player eligible for induction into the CCAA Hall of Fame who was named a tournament all star or the tournament most valuable player at every nationals he attended and a CCAA All Canaidan in every season he donned a jersey for a member institution. Only two of the 27 CCAA Hall of Fame members in the athlete category who participated in league sports can make the same claim.
