CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP COACHES AT THE CANADA WINTER GAMES

Four coaches hold the distinction of coaching teams at the Canada Winter Games and the CCAA National Hockey Championships.

At the 2001 Canada Winter Games in Bathurst-Campbellton, New Brunswick, Francesco Bazzocchi guided Ontario to a bronze medal after leading Seneca College to national championship appearances in 1998 and 2000.

At the 1999 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook Newfoundland and Labrador, Jim Large coached Saskatchewan to a fourth place finish after taking  SIAST Palliser (formerly the Saskatchewan Technical Institute) to nationals in 1986 and 1989.

At the 1991 Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, a pair of CCAA Coaching Award of Excellence recipients were behind the bench.  1989 CCAA Coaching Award of Excellence recipient Brian MacGregor guided Saskatchewan to a sixth place finish after taking SIAST Kelsey (formerly Kelsey Institute) to national championship appearances in 1987 and 1988.  1987 CCAA Coaching Award of Excellence recipient Terry Bangen coached British Columbia to a silver medal after a record setting five consecutive appearances at nationals with Cariboo College from 1984 through 1988.

A number of players who participated in the CCAA National Hockey Championships have also coached at the Canada Winter Games including former CCAA Tournament All Star and CCAA All Canadian Mario Richer.
