Canada's National Men's Team was founded in 1963 by Father David Bauer. The program was suspended in 1970 when Canada withdrew from IIHF competition and reinstated in 1983 when there was a commitment to prepare a team for the Winter Olympics. When the NHL shut down in 1998 to allow its players to compete in the Winter Olympics, the fate of the Canada's full-time National Men's Team was sealed. A part-time National Men's Team took the ice in 2000. Next month, the latest reincarnation of Canada's National Men's Team will take the ice at the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.

Thirty years ago, a former CCAA Tournament MVP who was a member of Canada's National Men's Team became an Olympian. Serge Roy became a two time national champion with Les Lauréats de St-Hyacinthe. The defenseman was selected as CCAA Tournament MVP in 1982-83 and a CCAA Tournament All Star in 1983-84.

After college hockey, the Sept-Iles, Quebec native toiled with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the American Hockey League before joining the Canada's National Men's Team in 1985. Over the next three seasons, he dressed for 149 games with the squad. At the 1988 Winter Olympics, he assisted on seven goals in eight games for the fourth place finishers. He returned to Canada's National Men's Team for five games in the 1990-91 season. As a pro, Roy's career included stints in Sweden and Austria.

Roy was one of three CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Players to be members of Canada's National Men's Team. Matt Kabayama of the 1988 CCAA champion Mount Royal College Cougars and Greg Geldart of the 1992 CCAA champion NAIT Ooks also played for the squad.

Over the years, at least 10 other CCAA players donned jerseys for Canada's National Men's Team.
