A pair of former CCAA silver medalists return home as championship head coaches.
Bill Peters, who was a right winger at the 1989 CCAA Men's Hockey National Championships in Edmonton with the Red Deer College Kings, coached Team Canada to gold at the 2016 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Moscow. Peters joined the Camrose Lutheran College Vikings prior to the start of the 1986-87 campaign. After playing two seasons with the Vikings under Mike Johnston, he donned a Kings jersey for a season with Mike Babcock at the helm.
Rylan Ferster, who was at the 1992 CCAA Men's Hockey Challenge Cup in Edmonton with the SAIT Trojans, guided the West Kelowna Warriors to the 2016 RBC Cup in Lloydminster. Ferster played three seasons with the Ken Babey coached SAIT Trojans beginning with the 1991-92 campaign before concluding his playing career in Europe.
