| 2008-09 Prognosis: |
The Griffins have 11 returnees. In the crease, returnee Kristen Sugiyama and newcomer Jessica Caldwell from the Edmonton Thunder (Midget ‘AAA”) will push each other to excel. On the blueline, Emily Hnatiuk, Danielle Schmidt, Katelyne Epp and Seyara Shwetz are back. Danielle Baxter, a former captain of the St. Albert Slash (Midget ‘AAA’), and Ashley Edwards, a transfer from the NAIT Ooks, and Shayla Meyer, a smooth skater with the Stettler Vipers (Midget ‘A’) will add depth to the defensive core. Veterans Lauren Chiswell, Melody Howard, Sarah Martens, Jillian Barber, Maggie Tkachuk and Leanna Kordyban will provide leadership up front. Newcomers to the forward ranks include Jenna Reichert from the Lloydminster Eagles (Junior), Ashley Holt from the Camrose Grizzlies (Midget ‘A’), Trina Campbell the Warner Warriors (Junior), and Alysa Scheit from the Lacombe Ice (Midget ‘A’). |
2008-09 Prognosis: |
The Cougars have ten players back. Goaltending was one of the uncertainties entering training camp with no returnees. Newcomers Leanne Pfilger from the Prince George Cougars (Midget ‘AAA’), Sarah Oswald from the Sherwood Park Renegades (Midget ‘A’), and Chelsea May from the Vernon Lakers (Midget ‘A’) are battling for ice time. The Cougars will have a strong and mobile defense led by captain Chantal Morrison. Kelsey Green, formerly of the Spruce Grove Timberwolves (Midget ‘AAA’), is the lone rookie on the blueline. Up front, the Cougars are small and quick. A transfer from the University of Calgary, Chelsey Morrill, along with returnees Sash Hochlander and Sharina Filion will be forwards to watch. Notable newcomers up front include Madison Ouellette from the Red Deer Chiefs (Midget ‘AAA’) and Chrissy Hodgson from the Okotoks Oilers (Midget ‘AAA’). |
2008-09 Prognosis: |
The Ooks are eager to move up in the standings with nine players back. The Ooks appear to be strong in goal with Alycia Monahan and Lauryn Dzioba returning. A pair of forwards, returnee Tara Swanson and newcomer Karena Pyle from the St. Albert Slash (Midget ‘AAA’), will start the season on the blueline. Taylor Hurley, formerly of the Grande Prairie Storm (Midget ‘AAA’), will also be one of the rearguards to keep an eye on. Beth Pernsky is one of the vets who will lead a hard working offensive unit. A multi sport athlete from Wetaskiwin, Justine Cantley, along with Monika Moskalski from the Edmonton Thunder (Midget ‘AAA’) and Steph Fedoruk from the Edmonton Chimos are new faces to watch up front. |

THe Queens have nine returnees. Goaltending will be one of the team’s strengths with Grace Gaska and Kaitlyn Chapman back. Returnees Janel Lirette and Lindsay Hogg will anchor the defense. Welcome additions on the blueline include Mika Strueby from the Lloydminster Steelers (Midget ‘AAA’) and Kim Day from the Swift Current Wildcats (Midget ‘AAA’). Up front, the veterans including Megan Abt, Charlee Mappin, and Crista Abbot will draw upon their strengths to provide leadership. Among the rookies, Karla Bourke from the Spruce Grove Timberwolves (Midget ‘AAA’) and Ashley Blaquiere from the Battlefords Sharks (Midget ‘AAA’) led their respective teams in scoring last season and have shown promise so far. |

The Trojans have nine veterans back in the fold. In between the pipes, Lindsay Coghlan is back and Kendra Chisholm joins the Trojans from the St. Albert Slash (Midget ‘AAA’). Returnees Michela Gellert and Christie McCarthy will steady the defensive core. Amanda Williams, formerly of the Westman Wildcats (Midget ‘AAA’), and Danielle Dekort, formerly of the Okotoks Oilers (Midget ‘AAA’), will be two of the rookie blueliners expected to make an impact. Offensively, veterans Tonya Faase, Bret Seaton, and Emily Burton will be crucial to the team’s fortunes. Kaitlin Reniak from the Medicine Hat Hounds (Midget ‘AAA’) is a newcomer that can put the puck in the net. Maia Smith-Mreovitz, formerly of the Calgary Bruins (Midget ‘AAA’), is a rookie that will play a lot bigger than her physical stature. |
2008-09 Prognosis: |
The Dinos have 13 players back. Veterans Katie Urness and Brenna Peterson give the U of C some options in the crease. The Dinos will be going with six natural rearguards including returnees Nicole Kuglin and Kim Maier. A pair of rookies join the U of C from the Notre Dame Hounds (Midget ‘AAA’) -- Danielle Braaten and Megan Frohaug. Ali Webb and Cait O’Hara will be transitioning back to roles up front this season and join a solid offensive unit that includes vets Becky Niehaus and Danielle Boyce. The Dinos have recruited a number of promising young rookies who will add some offensive spark to the team. |
