Jim MacLean, who coached the Concordia Thunder for 17 seasons, was honored with Hockey Alberta's Meritorius Award at the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala in Red Deer. The two time ACAC Coach of the year guided Concordia from 1992 through 2009 and is second alltime in ACAC games coached.

In 1984-85, the Hazeldean, Alberta native coached the Vermilion Tigers -- the first Alberta team to win the Keystone Cup (which is awarded to the Western Canadian Junior ‘B’ hockey champions). Currently, the former CCAA Coaching Award of Excellence recipient resides in Courtneay, BC and coaches the Comox Valley Glacier Kings of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
