The 2009-10 Regular Season Concludes

The 2009-10 regular season is in the books and there have been a number of noteworthy events.

The SAIT Trojans equal their best winning percentage in regular season play of .875. In 1980-81, the Trojans won 21 and lost 3. The Trojans also tie a team mark for fewest losses (3) set in 1980-81 and equalled in 2006 -07 and for most wins (23) set in 2002-03. SAIT's six straight first place finishes equals the mark set by the Mount Royal College Cougars (1992-93 to 1997-98). Ken Babey, who has coached the most games in regular season and playoffs in Canadian post-secondary hockey history, is the only coach to guide an ACAC team to six straight first place finishes.  SAIT is now tied with NAIT & Red Deer College for most first place finishes in league history (11).  Marco Guercio tied a league mark with two shorthanded goals in a game.

The Portage Voyageurs set a team mark for wins in a season with 10. Netminder Shane Mainprize also recorded the first shutout in team history.   Head coach Terry Ewasiuk also coached his 200th ACAC regular season game this past season.

The NAIT Ooks made the playoffs for the 36th straight season - a league best. Head coach Terry Ballard has now been behind the bench for more regular season games than any other coach in Ooks history as he surpassed Perry Pearn's mark of 341.

The Concordia Thunder equalled a team mark for most wins in a season with 18 set last season. Andre Herman tied a league mark with two shorthanded goals in a game and the Thnuder set a league record with five shorthanded goals in a game. Netminder Justin Cote, the team's all time leader in shutouts with seven, also scored a goal this past season. Dan Peacocke became the first coach in ACAC history to record wins with three different teams.

Though the Briercrest Clippers and the Augustana Vikings did not set any team marks, there were some noteworthy individual achievements. Calvin Watson of the Clippers coached his 100th regular season game in the ACAC. Daniel Hope of the Vikings scored 15 powerplay goals breaking the mark of 14 set by Robin Dube of the NAIT Ooks in 1988-89. Quinn Amiel of Augustana tied a league mark of three powerplay goals in a game.
